Field Battery Service Engineer

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm
Salary: £31,000 – £35,000 p.a. + Company Vehicle + Fuel Card + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays
We are currently working with a rapidly growing independent service provider within the forklift battery and material handling industry, who are seeking a Field Battery Service Engineer to join their expanding team.
Operating nationwide, the business specialises in the supply, servicing, and maintenance of forklift batteries and charging equipment for a wide range of customers. The Role
As a Field Battery Service Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expert technical support to customers, carrying out electrical repairs, maintenance, and servicing on forklift batteries and chargers.
Working predominantly on customer sites throughout North Yorkshire and the North East, you will diagnose faults, complete repairs, and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, electrical knowledge, and the ability to build positive relationships with clients.
Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on forklift batteries and chargers.
- Fault find, diagnose, and resolve electrical and mechanical issues.
- Test and assess battery cells and equipment performance.
- Replace battery cells and components where required.
- Change connector bolts and replace damaged cables.
- Carry out soldering and electrical repair work.
- Maintain and top up battery cells.
- Clean and maintain battery equipment to a high standard.
- Interpret wiring diagrams and technical information.
- Provide professional advice and support to customers on-site.
- Complete work reports and maintain accurate service records.
Experience / Skills Required
- Previous experience working with batteries, forklift trucks, material handling equipment, or within a similar engineering environment is highly desirable.
- Electrical fault-finding skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to understand wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with customers.
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing a field-based workload.
- Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
