Battery Operative (Field-Based)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: York (Field-Based)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Salary: £28,000 per annum + Company Van + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays
My client is a dynamic market leader within the motive power industry, recognised for delivering exceptional service and continuing to grow year after year.
Due to continued expansion, they are looking to recruit a Battery Operative to join their field-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a long-term career with genuine progression opportunities.
No previous battery experience is required. If you have a positive attitude, enjoy working with customers, and are reliable and willing to learn, full training will be provided.
This role is designed as the first step towards becoming a Battery Engineer.
Initially, you will be responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance by cleaning, topping up and inspecting forklift truck batteries. As your knowledge and experience develop, you will receive further training to carry out basic battery repairs and inspections, providing a clear pathway into a fully qualified Engineering position for those who demonstrate the right attitude and commitment.
Key Responsibilities

Cleaning and maintaining forklift truck battery cells.

Topping up lead-acid batteries as part of planned preventative maintenance.

Carrying out battery inspections and basic repairs following training.

Delivering an excellent level of customer service whilst visiting client sites.

Adhering to all health and safety procedures.

Representing the company professionally at all times.

Maintaining a clean and organised work area.

Working closely with colleagues as part of a supportive team.
Essential Skills & Experience

Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 penalty points.

Previous experience in a hands-on or practical role is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Good attention to detail.

Reliable, hardworking and eager to learn.

Comfortable travelling to customer sites.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
