Location: Scottish Highlands – Candidates are required to reside within the Scottish Highlands region due to site visit obligations, however majority of work will be conducted from home.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £30,000-£35,000 p.a. – dependant on experience
Our client is an Ecological Consultancy based in the Scottish Highlands.
Their clientele is diverse, ranging from individual landowners and homeowners to planning consultancies, architects, and various consulting firms across the UK. They also collaborate with contractors on projects of varying scales, both large and small, spanning across Scotland.
This role would be suited to an Ecologist with 2-4 years of experience within a consultancy, with some project management experience and competency in report writing.
Example of Responsibilities
  • Conducting field surveys to assess biodiversity, habitat quality, and species populations in various ecosystems found in the Scottish Highlands.
  • Developing and implementing habitat management plans aimed at preserving or restoring native habitats and ecosystems in the Scottish Highlands.
  • Analysing ecological data collected from surveys and other sources to identify trends, patterns, and potential threats to biodiversity.
  • Assessing the potential ecological impacts of proposed developments or land use changes in the Scottish Highlands, such as forestry operations, wind farms, or infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations while conducting fieldwork and implementing conservation activities in remote or challenging environments.
Experience/ Skills Required
  • Relevant qualification is preferred.
  • The candidate should have one species licence or be working towards a license within the near future.
  • range of experience across species and a specialism in one discipline, ideally in ornithology, protected mammal species such as bats, or habitats (NVC, Phase 1 and/or UKHab
  • Experience in Ecological/Environmental Clerk of Works is also desirable.
  • Experience with BNG calculations is also desirable.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Excellent communication skills.
