Design Engineer  

Employment type: Permanent, full-time

Location: Colchester

Hours: 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: £35,000-£45,000 p.a.

My client is currently seeking an experienced Design Engineer, with a background in structural engineering to join their business on a permanent basis. My client manufactures products for construction/ building companies, architects, and engineers.

The Role

Playing a key role in my clients engineering team, the Design Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment and will be responsible for developing designs for customer requirements, as well as producing calculations for these designs, cost estimates and providing details regarding materials. The Design Engineer will also work closely with the Manufacturing team to ensure that bespoke designs are feasible.

Experience/ Skills Required

  • A formal qualification in mechanical or structural engineering e.g. Degree, HND etc.
  • Substantial experience with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
  • Familiarity with ISO or BS engineering drawing principles
  • Confident producing calculations with regard to beam bending and shear
  • Good knowledge of Eurocodes
  • Knowledge of building regulations (desirable)
  • Knowledge of masonry construction (desirable)
  • Understanding of manufacturing optimisation (desirable)
  • A creative mindset
  • Good problem-solver

With this position, there is scope for the successful candidate to progress into a managerial role in the future. Furthermore, the Design Engineer will have considerable involvement in product improvement and development.
